ZBrush Summit 2017 Sculpt Off Entry - Card Gardener

Here is my entry for the ZBrush Summit 2017 Sculpt Off, Hard Surface Category. The theme for the contest was "Down the Rabbit Hole", characters from Alice in Wonderland. It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do, and it wasn't until the week before that I had the epiphany to do the Card Gardener. My second concept would've been a take on Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee. I got a quick test-run in the night before and felt confident I would be able to pull off the full character in the 3 hours allotted. It was an honor being asked back to participate in my 2nd Sculpt Off!

This was the entry submitted at the end of the three hours on Sculpt Off morning. I wasn't entirely happy with the proportion of the eye lens and choice of gold. Further down you'll see some updated imagery and more refined KeyShot renders.

My first character sketches. The Card Knight was my first choice, followed by Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

After doing more research, I decided to switch to the Card Gardener, because I liked the idea of using the paintbrush/paint can and red paint.

Still fooling around with shapes, but the image on the right solidified what I wanted to go for.

The night before, I got an hour and 1/2 to do a quick test run. I then sketched in the remaining details using Photoshop.

Post Sculpt Off KeyShot renders. I further tweaked the pose and a few pieces, including cleaning up and defining the shape of the paint.
